Annen head office

A new system for the construction of lightweight wooden structures.

The Annen Head Office Project consists in a series of 23 vaults with spans ranging from 22.5 m to 53.7 m. The project will accommodate a 5800m2 facility including a timber prefabrication factory space and offices.

Thanks to digital advances and the collaborative work of architects and research engineers, each vault has been discretized into singular boxes, made with industrial wood panels assembled with wood-wood connections.

The entire structure was studied and tested beforehand, and the project is currently being carried out in Manternach.

To summarize, on one side we have standardized modular workflows with repeated shape and processes, and on the other side we have complex architectural projects with custom shape and processes. Our research tries to combine the best of both by designing and building custom shapes through a repeated process.

A major challenge consisted in automating the data transfer from the architectural geometry (the initial mesh) to the macro model.

A significant gain of computational time was performed. Using Macro Models allows for a rapid feedback and can help to optimize an architectural design through an iterative process.

Overall, the project follows a long term and continuous research and developments held at IBOIS.
